Weekend Outfit #2

Last week I went out to dinner and drinks with my work colleagues. I've been on maternity leave for nearly 2 years now and this is the first time most of us got together since my little farewell. It was fun! Lots of fun! I work with some really amazing people and they are the reason that make my job so much more enjoyable. I'm so glad that I took the additional 12 months off, as I really wasn't ready to go back to work when my daughter was 12 months old. But now that my kids are older and more independent, I have to say that I'm really looking forward to going back to work.

Anyhow, onto the important part! I'm so in love with this outfit. I bought this beautiful top at David Jones a few days ago. It's absolutely perfect, and I wasn't the only one who thought that. My beautiful friend from work rocked up in the same top. Well the cut wasn't the same and the fabric wasn't the same but the pattern was identical and when we stood next to each other it just looks like a sheet of fabric that was wrapped around the both of us.

Top - David Jones

Jeans - Asos. These are seriously comfortable

Shoes - I bought these from Tony Bianco maybe 7 or 8 years ago and they are still going strong.

Bag - Michael Kors Jet Set Chain Tote this is seriously one of my favourite bags

Bracelet - Mimco. This one was on sale recently and I can't find it online anymore but I'm sure there would be a few in store somewhere

Earrings - Peter Lang Del Rose Gold Crystal Stud Earrings

Have you ever worn the same outfit as someone else before?

BellaBox April 2014

So I bit the bullet and signed up to bellabox to see what all the fuss is about.

I received it in the mail this morning and here is what I got

1. Avon Mega Effects Mascara - $19.95 for 9ml

This was the full sized item. I've seen tv commercials on this mascara and was keen to try it so I was happy to see it in the box.
It's a little hard getting the actual brush out of the lid at first but I worked it out eventually. To be honest after trying it I wasn't too impressed. Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but I prefer the good old fashioned mascara. This was fiddly and I couldn't get the brush as close to the lash line as I normally like to. I also didn't like the plastic brush head that much.

2. Vaseline Ultimate 10 Anti-Ageing Body Lotion - $7.68 for 225ml

I'm quiet excited to use this. Let's face it, I'm 30 and my skin isn't what it used to be. The texture is a little thicker than the other Veseline Body Lotions that I've used but going into winter this might actually be a good thing. The only thing that throws me off is the smell. It's very floral and I'm not a big fan of floral.

3. St Tropez Sel Tan Bronzing Face Lotion - $49.95 for 50ml

I was excited to see this as I'm a big fan of  the St Tropez tanning products. I've never ever applied a fake tan to my face so this should be an interesting one to try out. As with all St Tropez products the smells is amazing and the texture is really light.

4. Indio Eye Rise - $67.20 for 15ml

Another product that I was excited to see in the box was this eye cream. I've been meaning to go out and buy an eye cream so this has saved me some researching for now. I've never heard of this brand before but going by the reviews that I read online about it, it seems to be a good product. This is a day eye cream and has inbuilt sunscreen and concealing properties. Very excited to try and it smells really nice.

5. Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm - $7.95 for 8.5g

I have heard so many people rave about Burt's Bees and I must be the only one who doesn't like it. I've tried a few products in the past and have always passed them along to those who loved the products. This particular lip balm is with Vitamin E & Peppermint and I thought it smelled really nice but once I put it on my lips the burning from the peppermint started and I pretty much removed it almost immediately. This just shows that I still don't like their products.

6. I received some colour samples for the Revlon Nearly Naked Makeup. I'm keen to see if any of them match my skin colour and what the texture and longevity of foundation is.

What's my verdict? Well I'm keen to try 3 of the 5 products, but I'm not completely blown away. I might give the bellabox another go next month before I make my decision wether to continue or cancel the membership.

Lancome Teint Visionnaire Skin Perfecting Makeup Duo Review

I decided that it was finally time to write a little review on the Lancome Teint Visionnaire foundation as promised previously.

I first fell in love with the foundation when I received a little sample of it when I bought a Lancome Visionnaire Skincare Pack to try out. I actually put the sample aside because the colour seemed too dark for my skintone, but as the weather warmed up and I spent more time outside and developed a nice colour I pulled the foundation from my stash and was completely blown away after just one application.

It didn't take long for me to go out and buy the full size and I'm so glad that I did.

The Lancome Teint Visionnaire is not your average foundation. It offers complexion perfection targeting Dark Spots, Pores and Wrinkles. It also has SPF 20 which is a big tick of approval.

The foundation has a creamy texture and blends really well. The finish is a medium coverage and has a satin-like finish that is natural. Even thought I have oily skin I find that I don't necessarily need to apply a setting powder on top. It really does an amazing job at covering my uneven skin tone, redness and dark spots as promised. I find that I can skip the under eye concealer with this foundation but use the corrector that it comes with to cover up any blemishes, dark spots and visible scaring.
The concealer feels very cakey and hard and can be a little hard to apply to the skin, but warming it up between your fingers beforehand makes it really soft and creamy for an easier application.

I find that this foundation lasts a good 8 hours before my skin starts to become oily which is absolutely amazing considering most foundations on my skin will become oily after about 2-4 hours, so this is definitely a good thing for me. If I apply a primer before and a setting powder after the foundation I can go from day to night without any touchups.

Is it worth the $75 price tag? In my opinion ABSOLUTELY! I have spent a lot of money on foundations but none have come close to this one. The fact that it lasts for 8 hours and is a foundation and a concealer in 1 is a big bonus for me and was the selling point.

I recommend going to a Lancome Counter which you can find at Myer, David Jones and now Mecca Cosmetica, try it out and get colour matched and perhaps get a sample to try out for a few days.

Have you tried this foundation? Which foundation do you use?

Weekend Outfit #1

I'm heading out to dinner with some girlfriends tonight! I'm excited to see them all and to have a night out without the kids.

Tonight I'm keeping my outfit plain and simple! There is nothing better than a black and white combo!

Pants - Ponte Pants from Sussans. These are so comfortable and so stylish at the same time.

Top - This one is from Target. It was on of those Special Edition releases about 7 months ago.

Shoes - RMK suede wedges. These are so old but still going strong and very comfortable. They don't make the same pair but these are very similar to it.

Bag - Marc by Marc Jacobs Lil Ukita. Love this bag to bits.

Jewellery - The Cuff and Earrings  are both from Witchery.

What are you up to tonight?

My Easter Makeup Look

Thought I'd share my first makeup look with you guys. I am one of those people who sometimes tries a makeup look before a special occasion to make sure that I like it rather than having to re-do it on the day.

Easter Sunday is usually a big deal for our family. We start the day with a family breakfast, Easter Mass then lunch at at my inlaws which includes the whole immediate family and then usually a second dessert or dinner at my parents place. Special occasions such as Easter and Christmas I really like to go all out and put extra effort into how I look, even though it's just family.

As it's getting cooler here in sydney I decided to go for a more autumny (is that a word) look with a darker lip colour and a natural eye.

1. This foundation!!!!  The Lancome Teint Visionnaire Foundation is the best thing that I've discovered in the beauty world in a long time. It's the perfect match for skin. The colour and the texture. It doesn't break me out and my combination skin stays matt for most of the day. Another great part about it is that it comes with the perfect match concealer so it's very easy to cover up those annoying blemishes.

2. I added a concealer under my eyes to cover the dark circles and brighten my eyes. This one is Mac and works well on my skin. I love that the palette has so many different colour options. I use the Light palette as I prefer it for highlighting but it comes in medium, medium deep and dark. Mac Pro Conceal and Correct Palette/Light

 3. I then filled in my eyebrows. They are so horrible at the moment. A beautician took of way too much from the top of my right side and I'm now growing them out. I use a blond Mary Kay eyebrow pencil that I've had for a very long time which has been discontinued since I purchased it. I don't really like my eyebrows to be really really dark but I prefer some definition with a little colour.

4. I then applied this absolutely amazing blush by TheBalm in the colour Hot Mama!. This is a sample size that my friend brought back from the States. I will definitely buy the full size once I've used this one up.

5. This Clinique eyeshadow/blush/bronzer palette was also a gift from my friend and I haven't seen it around the shops in australia. The colours are called Twilight Mauve and Brandied Plum. You can get the eyeshadow duo here.
I applied the lighter colour all over my lid and on my brow bone. I then used the darker colour and applied it very lightly with a fluffy blending brush on my outer lid and crease for some definition.
I also used the darker colour on a flat liner brush and put that on the top and bottom lash line.

6. I then added 2 coats of my Maybelline The Colossal Volum Express Mascara to my top and bottom lashes.

7. And onto the best part, the lipstick. This is the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in the colour Berry Haute. I love Mac products and this is almost identical to the Mac Up the Amp colour, but I think I prefer the texture of the Revlon lipstick much better. I added a little bit of this nude/pink Napoleon lipgloss which I found in my makeup kit.

And here are a few pics of the finished look. Notice the mummy hairstyle?

What makeup are you wearing this weekend?

Walk the Walk - My New Shoes

I've been lusting over the Chanel Espadrilles ever since they were released.

I walked into Chanel one day and tried them on and it was like walking on clouds, but unfortunately my stay at home mum status doesn't allow for such extravagant footwear (maybe one day).

I loved the style of the shoe as I've been wearing ballet flats for the past 10 years, so when I stumbled across these Nude Footware ones I fell in love.

The style is called NUDE Doll Face Flat and retails for $119 AUD. They are comfortable and stylish. The leather isn't as soft as the Chanel ones but is getting softer with each wear. I've received a lot of compliments on these. You can purchase these online (Here) or in selected stores. I do recommend trying them on in store or checking the measurements online as I find Nude Footware runs on the small side.

Nail Of The Day - Maybelline Color Show in Tan Lines

Anyone that knows me well will tell you that I love anything rose gold at the moment. So when I stumbled upon this nail polish by Maybelline Color Show in the colour Tan Lines, I simply had to have it.

While it's not a full on rose gold colour it's close enough and I love the fact that it looks quiet natural even will all the shimmer in it.

I will definitely use this polish again

50 Uses for Coconut Oil

Hi my name is Nikky and I'm a coconut oil addict.

I discovered coconut oil about a year ago when I started to get an interest in healthy eating. I went out and bought it, put it in my pantry cupboard and forgot about it. A month later I had to bake a cake for my son to take to daycare for his birthday and to my horror I realised that I forgot to buy the butter. It was late in the evening, cold and raining and I almost gave up and then I remembered that I had the coconut oil. I figured I could use that in place of the butter and if it failed, well then at least I tried. But to my surprise it worked. Perfectly at that and I haven't looked back since.

Coconut oil is easily accessible nowdays and can be purchased at Woolworths, Coles, Healthfood Stores, Online and Costco. I personally buy mine at Costco for $14 for 900g which I think is a great price.

My love affair with coconut oil keeps growing stronger, so here are my 50 way to use it today.

  1. Apply as a deep conditioner for your hair.   Just leave it on for 5-10 minutes, and your hair will be shiny and hydrated.  Just be sure to rinse thoroughly!
  2. Use in place of serum to eliminate frizzy hair.
  3. Rub into the skin to soften rough and dry patches.
  4. Add about a teaspoon to your hot chocolate for a subtle flavour
  5. Use to polish stainless steel appliances by applying with a cloth in soft circular motions.
  6. Use as a makeup remover.  It’s particularly great for taking off eye makeup.
  7. Add some to your smoothies
  8. Treat psoriasis and eczema with it. (My daughter get’s eczema whenever she get’s sick and coconut oil works wonders)
  9. Aid digestion and eliminate heartburn by consuming one tablespoon.
  10. Use it to soften cuticles.
  11. Give yourself an at-home pedicure, and apply coconut oil as a foot cream.
  12. Use as a nappy rash cream alternative.
  13. Exfoliate your lips by mixing some coconut oil with brown or regular sugar.  Scrub gently for smooth soft lips.
  14. Use it to heal cracked heels and elbows.
  15. Apply it to alleviate razor burn.
  16. Use it to heal cuts and scratches.
  17. Use it in place of shaving cream.
  18. Conceal split ends by adding just a tiny bit to the ends of your hair.
  19. Take a spoonful for an instant boost of energy. (my daughter loves to eat coconut oil)
  20. Add it to your diet to naturally control insulin levels.
  21. Nursing moms can use it as a substitute for Lanolin cream.
  22. Gently rub a tiny bit onto your lashes as a moisturizing overnight treatment for your eyelashes.
  23. Dab some on the skin around your nose to keep it from getting chapped when you have a cold.
  24. Use it to relieve itchy mosquito bites.
  25. Apply it to your brows after tweezing or waxing to soothe irritation and redness.
  26. Try it as a replacement for vegetable oil in baked goods.
  27. Rub some into the skin daily to fade age spots.
  28. Apply a bit to your child’s elbow and knee scrapes to soothe them and help them to heal more quickly.
  29. Massage liberally into hair and leave it in overnight after your hair has been color treated and processed to help repair damage.
  30. Massage over acne scars 1-2 times per day to help them fade.
  31. Apply it to cold sores to help them heal quickly.
  32. Massage into your scalp to help stimulate hair growth.
  33. Take a tablespoon daily to relieve acid reflux.
  34. Take it orally to reduce hunger.
  35. Take it orally to help reduce the risk of heart disease.
  36. Add it to your diet to help reduce abdominal fat.
  37. Dab some coconut oil on your wrists to relieve nausea.
  38. Massage it into your temples to relieve a migraine.
  39. Take it to prevent osteoporosis, as it helps the body to better absorb calcium and magnesium.
  40. Rub it on your feet to get rid of Athlete’s Foot.
  41. Exfoliate your face and body by mixing some coconut oil with baking soda or sugar and massaging it gently into your skin.
  42. Apply it to a ringworm infection to heal it more quickly. (The things kids pick up at daycare)
  43. Apply some to the inside of your nose when it is feeling dry to prevent discomfort and nose bleeds.
  44. Use in place of hemorrhoid cream.
  45. Take some orally before a workout to improve your stamina.
  46. Mix it with some clove oil to relieve a toothache.
  47. Use it as an eye cream.
  48. Apply a bit to an old rag and use it to polish furniture.
  49. Apply to bruises to help them heal more quickly.

The Mummy Hairstyle

The Mummy Hairstyle?! You may be asking what that is and I'm here to tell you.

You see as a mummy I find it so hard to find the time to do my hair. By do my hair I mean brush it properly, blow dry it and perhaps straighten or curl it. In the last 4 years I can count on 1 hand how often I did that on any given day. My hair get's brushed very quickly in the morning and then put up in a ponytail or a messy bun and I'm so sick and tired of it. I want to have nice hair but quiet frankly if I leave it out it just annoys me so much that I put it into a ponytail within an hour and if it doesn't annoy me then it goes all frizzy or oily and needs to be tamed by being put in a ponytail.

I went to the hairdresser today and asked her for some advice about my crazy hair combination and while she was telling me about all these different products I got the biggest urge to just cut it all off. It took so much willpower to actually not do it.

When I got married nearly 6 years ago I had really long hair and always wanted to cut it short so after the wedding I did exactly that. I got the whole Posh Spice concave hairstyle and loved it. I kept it for a few years and it went even shorter while I was pregnant with my son. Once he was born I decided it was time to grow it as I was getting a bit sick of the same hairstyle every day. It grew long and I experiment with different styles. Then I fell pregnant with my daughter and the crazy pregnancy hormones made me cut it Posh Spice short again.

My hair is pretty long again but it's always in a pony tail and I feel like when it's down it makes my face look even smaller than it already is. Yes I have a serious issue with my small head. And then there is the annoyance of it being frizzy/oily and all over the place as I mentioned above.

If I do decide to get it cut again it will be something like this.

So what are your thoughts on the short hair vs long hair debate? Which is easier to maintain especially for mum's? And what are your go to products to keep your hair shiny and frizz free?

Bag Heaven

Today I went into Costco to get a few things and of cause as soon as I walked in there was a stand with designer bags and wallets. I had a look at some wallets because mine needs replacing asap. They had some beautiful Michael Kors wallets but the colours were horrible.
As I started to walk away, I caught a glimpse of IT!!!! THE PERFECT BAG!! The one I've been looking for since I stopped using a nappy bag with my daughter back in September. The one that is stylish yet big enough to carry a nappy, baby wipes and 1 or 3 water bottles.
I asked the sales assistant about the price and he told me he was just setting up and was waiting to get all the price tags and he told me to come back in a few minutes. So here I am walking around Costco dreaming of that beautiful bag, dreaming of how amazing it is and how perfect it is for my lifestyle.
So I finished all my shopping and headed back to the counter only to see the price and my heart sinks.
This beautiful bag had a price tag of $996 attached to it and I realised that it's a Salvatore Ferragamo Gina Tote. Why have I not bothered to check the brand before I started daydreaming about it? And why as my husband would say do I have such expensive taste? Oh but it's so perfect but let's face it I'm a mum of 2 and there is no way that I'm spending 1k on a handbag that will carry nappies and water bottles. So I will keep dreaming about this bag while I keep searching for the other perfect bag that is perhaps 1/10th of the price of this Salvatore Ferragamo (unless someone wants to be really kind and gift this to me) - Nope no one... I was afraid of that.
