MAC and Sephora US Haul

The joys of being a makeup addict is the constant need to purchase more and more products. Both Rose (Lipstick n' Linguine) and I were lusting over some items from Sephora and MAC and decided to go for it and share the cost of the shipping.

So here is what I got. It's not very adventurous as I stuck to brands that I know (hello Nars and MAC) but I'm so happy with my purchases.

So here is what I picked up.

Sephora

Nars Audacious Lipsticks in Anita and Natalie
There was so much hype about these lipsticks when they were released a few weeks ago so I can't wait to try them.

Nars Lipgloss in Salamanca
This colour is so beautiful and is the perfect pink for summer.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Honey
It's taken me nearly a year but I have finally taken the plunge and purchased this highly raved about concealer. I was colour matched at Mecca for the colour Honey to be just slightly lighter to highlight my undereye area.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo in Medium Brown
I have brow products in all other forms except for the powder so I'm really looking forward to trying this out.

MAC

Mineralized Blush in Warm Soul
I love my New Romance blush by Mac and this was the next one my list to try.

Eye Kohl in Teddy
This is another raved about product in the beauty blogging world. It's a beautiful brown/brown eye pencil that I can't wait to try out.

Amplified Lipstick in Vegas Volt
This is a gorgeous orange toned lipstick and since I don't have many of those I was excited to finally place this in my cart.

As you can see I didn't go too crazy in my haul but am really happy with the products that I did get. I'm considering getting a few more limited edition (aka holiday releases) from Sephora in the next month or so. If you have any favourite or must have items please let me know below.

Mecca Haul feat. Josie Maran and Philosophy

I have seen the Josie Maran beauty products pop up all over the web lately and I was really intrigued to try them. A friend of mine gave me a small sample of the argan oil and I have absolutely loved it. So after some trialling I decided to get a full sized bottle. I was also in the market for a new eye cream. Here is the whole haul.

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil
I have been using this amazing product in my hair and dry patches on my skin. It's amazing and doesn't have a strong smell.

Josie Maran Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil in Limitless Coral
I wanted something to pop into my handbag and have as a cheek and lip touch up especially in summer and this product seemed to be the perfect match.

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolour Cheek Gelee in Poppy Paradise
This is one of those products that kept popping up all over Instagram and Facebook and I had to try it.

Philosophy Miracle Worker Ret Eye
I have read some amazing reviews on this eye cream so I can't wait to see if it lives up to those reviews.

Philosophy Amazing Grace Fragrance
If you're after a fragrance that smells like you just stepped out of the shower, then this is it. It's so fresh and beautiful and I had to have a small bottle in my bag.

What have been some of your recent purchases at Mecca recently?

Let's talk about Weightloss: Sore, the most satisfying feeling!

I haven't talked about weightloss for some time now and I just had to share this with you all.

Between myself and the kids we've been sick for weeks if not months so not much was happening on the weightloss front. Lack of sleep, lack of exercise and frankly lack of smart food choices hasn't seen me going anywhere. I have finally (fingers and toes crossed) shaken my chest infection and decided to get back to exercising. Nothing too straining until I'm 100% so my exercise of late included some walking, situps, lunges, squats oh and let's not forget the 6 hour shopping trip on Wednesday.

Today as I was standing in line in Big W to pay for a few things, those dreaded chocolates at the checkout line caught my attention and I really really really wanted one. As I moved to get one I realised the muscle pain in my body. My legs, butt, arms and abs everything was sore, but it was a good sore. I actually enjoyed the pain (WHAT!!!!), and I realised that the pain of my muscles working so hard to keep my body moving and working hard to get me toned was a whole lot more satisfying than that chocolate bar ever will. So I promptly stepped away from the chocolates feeling very proud of myself.

I texted my brother (the running crossfit freak) a few minutes later telling him that the pain was more satisfying than chocolate and apparently that made his day! Go me and the very slowly changing mindset. It's these little reminders and fist pump moments that will make this journey a successful one!

And I'm pretty sure that my brother will print this and frame it as a constant reminder that YES I ADMIT, I ENJOY EXERCISE AND THE PAIN THAT COMES WITH IT!

I would love to hear some of your recent breakthroughs with whatever you may be battling in life at the moment.

Clinique Cheek Pop Blush Pop in Peach Pop Review

That a whole lot of "pop" in that sentence.

I haven't used Clinique products for a little while but where these beautiful blushes were released I simply couldn't resist anymore.

I picked out the colour Peach Pop. It's a beautiful Peachy/Coral blush and I didn't have anything similar in my makeup collection. The pigmentation is really good on this blush and a little goes a long way. You definitely need a light hand when applying this to get the best colour payoff possible but than again I prefer my blushes to look fairly natural on me.

The beautiful flower design on the blush was another big selling point for me. It's so pretty, so who could resist.

It's fast becoming one of my favourite blushes to use right now. I would love it if Clinique released more colours of this particular blush as it's much more pigmented than their other blushes and is very long lasting.

Have you tried any of the colours from the Cheek Pop range?

Simple Skincare Routine

Since I've talked about the Clarasonic a few days ago, I have had a few requests to show my current skincare routine.

From my previous posts HERE and HERE I've had a few hits and misses over the last few months, but I can honestly say that I'm really happy with the products that I'm currently using.

So here is my morning and night time skincare routine.

Morning

1. Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash
I thought this would be very drying on my skin as it's very frothy but my skin seems to love it. It's also got a slightly minty smells so it's the perfect wake me up scent for me in the mornings.

2. Mario Badescu Alpha Grapefruit Cleansing Lotion
This toner is alcohol free so it's perfect for my combination/oily skin as it means it doesn't dry it out and my skin doesn't reproduce more oil than it should.

3. QV Moisturising Day Cream
I've decided to take it back to basics with my moisturiser and this has worked well for me in the past. It's lightweight comes with SPF 30+ and my skin loves it.

Night

1. Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water
I'm in love with this cleansing water. I find it removes make up really well and doesn't leave an oily residue like standard makeup removers. It doesn't work so well on waterproof mascara but I would then use coconut oil.

2. Origins Cleanser & Clarasonic Mia2
The Sales Assistant at Mecca told me that these 2 products are a match made in heaven and I agree. If I'm wearing a lot of makeup I would go in with the cleanser first followed by another round of cleanser with the Clarasonic but on the days that I'm wearing not so much I use these two together in the first step.

3. I would go back in with my Mario Badescu Toner. Just to make sure that things are thoroughly clean.

4. Indeed Laboratories Retinol Reface and Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair
I love both these products so I switch them up. I find retinol to harsh to use every night so I only use it ever second night and then I'd use the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair every other night. These two products are amazing. I can't say that I can see a massive improvement in my skin but I can see a difference if I don't use them for a few days.

5. QV Nurturing Night Cream
Another back to basics product. It isn't a greasy moisturiser like most other night ones are and again my skin seems to respond really well to it.

I have recently ordered a new eye cream to try and reduce those wrinkles around my eyes and am excited for it to arrive and to do a review for you guys.

So that is pretty much all that I use on a daily basis and it's working out well for me at the moment.

Have you used any of the above products?

Clarasonic Mia2 Review

After a whole lot of umming and ahinngg I decided to buy my Clarasonic Mia2 in April to try and improve my skin and deep clean it because my cleanser alone wasn't cutting it.

I have heard from a lot of people who have used it that their skin went extremely dry and broke out, but I was very lucky because I didn't encounter any problems.

After about 2 weeks of using it I noticed that all those little pimples that were just sitting on top of my skin were disappearing and that my skin was less oily during the day. Since I've used the Clarasonic I've also noticed that I don't get those big painful under the skin acne breakouts anymore. Since April I have had 2!!! Only 2!!! I used to get 3 or 4 of those per month and I can definitely notice the difference if I don't use it for a few days.

The first time I used it I was so disgusted! Not with the product but with my skin. I removed all my makeup thoroughly and then went in with my cleanser and the Clarasonic. What was left on the brush was what seemed to be enough foundation to cover the face lightly again! No wonder I was getting all those breakouts. My skin was clogged up from not being properly clean all these years. The next day I removed my makeup, then cleansed my face by hand and then did another cleanse with the Clarasonic and there was still foundation left on the brush.

As mentioned above, this little device has made all the difference to the look and feel to my skin and now I'm kicking myself for not investing in it sooner. My skin tone is more even, I have a lot less of those tiny little pimples, my acne scaring has reduced and I don't get the painful under the skin acne outbreaks anymore.

I use mine every second day now as I find it too harsh to use every day. I might need to buy the Sensitive Brush heads and see if that makes a difference at all.

Here are some links to the Clarasonic and other alternatives. I would love to know what experiences you've had with a Clarasonic or any of the below products.

Spring Makeup Look - Bright Lips and Simple Eyes feat. Shanghai Suzy and Lorac Pro

Spring is definitely here and my makeup has changed a lot! From dark eyes and dark lips to simple eyes to bright lips.

This is one of my favourite looks at the moment.

Step 1: Apply primer and foundation. I almost always apply primer in summer because it really helps prolong the wear of my foundation. In summer I stick to more sheer lightweight foundations. In this look I've used the Benefit Porefessional Primer and the Maybelline Better Skin foundation.

Step 2: Contour, Highlight and Blush. I use very light contour and my favourite product at the moment is the Benefit Hoola Bronzer. For highlighting I use my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder. This powder is amazing because it gives you just enough glow especially in summer when things seems to naturally glow. I like keeping my blush fairly natural in summer. Here I used the MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Blush in New Romance.

Step 3: The Eyes. My eyes are very simple in summer. I've been loving the Lorac Pro palette. I used Lt. Bronze in the outer corner and as a contour and the colour Champagne all over the lid. I used the colour Nude in my inner corner and the brow bone. I then applied two coats of the L'Oreal False Lash Butterfly Wings Mascara.

Step 4: Lips! My favourite part. I used the Shanghai Suzy Miss Sally Lipstick. You can use any bright lipstick that you like.

What is your favourite Spring/Summer Makeup Look?

Get Wedding Season Ready - The Bride & Bridesmaid Edition

The wedding season is well and truly upon us now, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do a post on what steps to take to get yourself ready, wether you're the Bride or Bridesmaid.

1. As a bride, if you're planning on having a fake tan on your wedding day, trial run the fake tan when doing your makeup trial. That way the make up artist can match your foundation perfectly. If you can't then let her know that you plan on having a fake tan on your wedding day.

2. Get your body wedding day ready. Exfoliate your body from the neck down to your toes. Don't use a body exfoliator on your face as it's usually to harsh. Make sure you get your waxing done a few days before the big day incase of breakouts. If you don't wax, make sure you shave the day before.

3. Have a pedicure. Yes there will be photos of the feet.  I know there were on my wedding day.

4. Have a manicure. You don't want to be the one with a chipped nail that will get caught on the delicate fabric of your dress.

5. Have a spray tan or apply a tan at home. I prefer to do that 2 days prior to a special event as the colour seems to be most natural on me on day 2.

6. Wash your hair the night before. They don't call second day hair the best hair day for no reason.

7. Have a facial a week before the big date. A facial can sometimes make you break out, so go for a gentle facial. You can also do your own at home facial using products that you know and trust.

8. Exfoliate your lips! This is such an important step that a lot of brides and bridesmaids forget. There is nothing worse than having chapped lips on the day for many reasons.  Lipstick will not sit well on cracked lips, you'll be forever licking or biting your lips to get that yucky feeling of and and lip product will settle into the cracks and dry patches and it will look patch and uneven.

9. The most important part, wether you're the bride or the bridesmaid is ENJOY THE DAY! For the bride, this is the day you marry the love of your life. Your handsome groom won't care if the bouquet isn't exactly how you pictured it or if it's raining on the day. And the bridesmaids,  the beautiful bride picked you to be by her side no matter what so be her support and rock and remind her of the bigger picture.

Here are a few pictures of my wedding day! It was one of the best in my life!

Violet Box - September 2014 Review

I was so excited when a friend of mine mentioned the monthly beauty box by Violet Box. She told me the products were amazing, usable  and that she hasn't had a repeat of products yet. So I jumped on the bandwagon and joined for a month.

The Violet Box is $16.50 per month + $6.45 postage. They take the payment out of your account at the beginning of the month but don't ship until the end of the month. I received mine on tuesday 30th September.

The box feels so luxurious with a pull out box. And here are the products that I received.

1. Scandalous Rock Chick Wave Spray - RRP $17.95 for 150ml
This is meant to be a lightweight spray that creates beautiful waves. I can't wait to give this a go.

2. Foltene Nail Treatment - RRP $29.95
Wow this is a full sized item and I'm excited to try it. My nails are extremely brittle and dry at the moment so this product came at the perfect time.

3. Girlactik Eyeshadow in Dreamy - RRP $23.00
This product is right up my alley and the colour seems to be a mixture between blue and lavender. Perfect for summer.

4. Starlooks Ultra Olive Gem Pencil - RRP $21.50
This pencil seems amazing. The colour is an olive green with glitter throughout. It seems really soft and pigmented. I can't wait to try it.

5. Polished London Nail Enamel - RRP $8.00
I received a beautiful baby pink colour. I don't think you can ever go wrong with a pink nail polish.

All in all I'm really happy with what I received and all these items are full size. I will definitely use all of the items in my box.

Have you subscribed to Violet Box?
