Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer Review & Swatches

After reading and hearing rave reviews about this Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, I decided to splurge and get it myself to try out. Boy am I glad that I did.

I only decided to purchase the smallest size available in Mecca which 8.95ml (10ml) and it cost $25. A steep price to pay but believe me it's worth it. On a side note, I'm really impressed with the Hourglass products and may turn into a brand snob if they continue making such amazing things.

This primer comes in three different sizes.
10ml - $25.00
30ml - $69.00
60ml - $96.00

The 10ml and 30ml come in a frosted glass bottle with an attached pump, but the 60ml comes in a tube.

The thing that was a big selling point to me was the fact that this primer comes with Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide which are natural sunscreen ingredients meaning it's not full of chemicals and in return it doesn't turn my face into a grease ball with breakouts.

I have tried many other primers on the market from high end to drug store but I have never found one that works as well as this one does. It actually keeps my foundation in place and is still looking great after a big 10 hour day. Unlike other primers this one is truly oil-free and fragrance free.

The Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer is white and can leave a slight white cast upon initial application but it gets absorbed into the skin within seconds and you can carry on with your foundation.

The texture of the primer is very water like, similar to a serum which makes it easy to blend and a little goes a long way. You can see by the swatches that it blurs the appearance of your skin instantly.

Overall I'm really happy with this product and I'm happy to pay the huge price tag for a product that works on my skin and performs to my satisfaction.

Have you tried this primer before? Did it work on you?

Models Prefer Soft Touch Mineral Blush In Autumn Callling Review & Swatches

A few weeks ago I was just hanging out at Priceline as you do and noticed this Models Prefer Soft Touch Mineral Blush and thought straight away that it look similar to the MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Blush. I picked the colour Autumn Calling because I didn't have anything similar and considering autumn is around the corner I saw it very fitting.

The packaging is quiet small and could easily be mistaken for an eyeshadow, but the actually blush is absolutely beautiful. It's packaged and domed just like the MAC blush and the colour is a beautiful rose/mauve colour which is perfect for everyday. It also has fine sparkle inside but it's not as subtle as MAC but in saying that it's not very noticeable either.

It's surprisingly pigmented and can be easily built up. I've now used it a few times and I can't believe that I've finally found a drugstore blush that is actually long lasting. I can get anywhere between 6-8 hours of noticeable wear from it depending what else is on my face, and even after the 6-8 hours you can still notice it slightly.

Overall, I'm really happy with this purchase and considering they're only $12.99 I'd be keen to get the other three colours to complete my collection but maybe I'll wait until Priceline has 40% of cosmetics.

Have you tried this blush and did you like it?

MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick Review & Swatches

I will be completely honest and say that I wasn't going to go out and buy the limited edition MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus lipstick, but seeing all the beautiful swatches on Instagram I decided to bite the bullet and get it after all.

I headed into my local Myer and used my birthday voucher (thanks Myer) to get this little beauty and a few other things.

The lipstick is packaged in the classic black MAC casing but instead of the silver features the Viva Glam lipsticks come with a beautiful red feature on the casing.  You can also find Miley's signature on both the casing of the lipstick and the box that it comes in.

The lipstick itself is absolutely beautiful! The colour is a beautiful medium fuchsia pink with blue undertones. It's from their amplified range therefore there is lots of pigmentation in this colour and a little goes a long way.

The colour is very similar to their Impassioned lipstick but the Viva Glam Miley Cyrus lipstick is slightly more blue toned.

Have you purchased this lipstick? What do you think of it?

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick in 9 Nude in Private Review & Swatches

I'm so excited to finally own one of the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipsticks. This was a birthday present that I received from hubby and I'm not sure if I'm more in love with the lipstick or the packaging.

I don't think I need to talk about the packaging much. It's simply luxurious. There is no other way to describe it.

When it comes to high end makeup especially lipsticks, I prefer to pick colour that I can wear on a daily basis with my everyday makeup look. So nudes, soft pinks and my lips but better colours. I figure if I'm going to spend and obscene amount of money on lipstick I'd want to wear it everyday (or most days) and get my money's worth out of it. Seasonal colours such as the pinks, corals, purples I'd rather pay a little bit less for.

The colour is a beautiful nude, that's glossy and moisturising. It honestly goes with every makeup look that I've created. It's also surprisingly long lasting and is very pigmented which I didn't expect considering it's a glossy formula. I'm keen to buy a few more colours, but perhaps I can make these lipsticks as my rewards for achieving certain goals (hello body weight scales did you hear me??).

Do you have a high end lipstick that you absolutely love and keep repurchasing?

Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette Review & Swatches

I was so excited to finally get my hands on the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics Palette recently. I'm absolutely in love with the original basics palette and really wanted to get this one to try out.

The packaging just like on the original ones is sleek and compact. It's perfect for traveling or to keep in your handbag for touch-ups throughout the day or to take your look from day to night.

The palette comes with 5 matte and 1 satin eyeshadows. The colours look absolutely beautiful and wearable for a day to day basis. The only downside, the eyeshadows are quiet chalky. You can tell on the swatches and photos how chalky the eyeshadows are and this was just one gentle swipe of them obviously. You can really see the difference in the quality of the eyeshadows between the Basics and Basics 2 palette. I also found the Basics 2 had a lot more fallout when applied with a brush.

Overall I'm a little bit disappointed with this palette. I'm a huge fan of the Urban Decay eyeshadows, but this is my least favourite. Perhaps with prolonged use the eyeshadows might become less chalky (fingers crossed) and I can add it to my favourites pile.

Do you have the Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette? What do you think of it?

Motherhood: How Sleep School Saved My Sanity

I was incredibly blessed when my daughter was born 2 years ago and she started sleeping through the night from 6 weeks young, unlike her older brother who is 4 and still sleeps very badly (but that's another topic). I would put her to bed at 7pm, she would have her dream feed at 10pm and then sleep straight through until about 7.30am. She would only wake up throughout the night if she was sick with a cold which didn't happen that often. Fast forward to May and she got a bit sick with a cold and gastro and was waking hourly. She got better after 2 weeks but her night wakings continued. It got to the point where she didn't know how to self settle herself anymore and would wake up every 1 - 2 hours every single night.

Three whole months of this had everyone in my household on edge. Me, hubby and my son who was a horrible sleeper as it is and his sister screaming every hour didn't help the situation. After whinging to my friends for weeks and a particularly horrible night where I did not sleep a single bit I decided to give Tresilian a call and have a chat with them and get some advice.

I spoke to a wonderful lady on the phone and she sympathised with me. She wasn't judgemental, listened to what I had to say and talked to me about everything we do in our daily routine. She basically told me what I already knew, that little Miss didn't know how to self settle anymore and that she got into a habit of waking so often during the night and asking for all kinds of things in the hope that it would settle her the next time she woke up.

Before I called Tresilian she would go to bed at 7pm, have her bottle and then whinge and scream for hours until she was finally too tired to continue anymore. Then at midnight on the dot every single night she would start her shenanigans of waking every 1-2 hours asking for milk, her dummy, tissues, dolly, you name it. She was a cranky little girl during the day who wouldn't eat and would just cry most of the day.

It's now been about 2.5 months since my initial phone call to Tresilian and I was told that milk in bed was a big no no. She could have it on the couch before bed, 7pm bedtime and if she asks for anything else, to tell her that she could have it in the morning and that it was bedtime now. I honestly thought that it would be so hard to get her out of her bad routine, but to my surprise it was a lot easier than I thought. The first night I had to go into her room 3 times telling her that there was no milk in bed and that it was time for sleep. She woke 3 times during the night asking for milk but went straight back to sleep when I told her she could have it on the couch in the morning. That morning she slept in until 8.30am and was the happiest she had been in a long time. She still wakes at night asking for her dummy but it is less frequent and usually once or twice a night. She has been so happy in the last few months and so have hubby and I because we actually get a solid block of sleep at night and aren't fighting anymore as to who is more tired. The funny thing is that she now knows that she gets her milk on the couch and as soon as she's finished with it, she takes herself to her bedroom.

The whole point of this post is that you really should seek help if you have a horrible little sleeper. I wish I did it with my son when he was younger, but I was too embarrassed to ask for help because I thought I would be judged as a mum that I couldn't get my kid to sleep. I will definitely be making a phone call to Tresilian again in the next few weeks to get some advice on A's horrible sleep.

Have you had a horrible little sleeper and how did you seek help?
